Case Setup

New Features

Overset mesh setup via right-click menu
Setting up a fan with an overset mesh is now extremely simple. Select the Overset mesh volume, right-click, and set as Overset Mesh. This process automatically identifies the parts inside as a fan in the UI, auto-computes the axis, center. You only need to specify the rotational speed as rpm.

Enhancements

Optional refinement zone creation for MRF and Overset mesh

The guide panel now allows the user to enable an automatic custom refinement zone for MRF and Overset mesh volumes. Previously, this was automatically created as the default setting. With this enhancement, the custom zone is created only on demand by the user.

Figure 1.
Part Table View
The part table now shows the groups tab by default. This is very useful to identify parts organized by groups such as wheels and porous media.

Resolved Issues

  • Client crash in the following scenarios has been fixed:
    • Created a new session after loading a Python setup with Wind Tunnel.
    • Creating belts with Python API.
    • Creating belts with two wheels.
    • Repeated undo operations after creating wheels interactively.
  • Units import dialog is no longer invoked when loading or importing a model from Python API.
  • MRF volume is correctly exported to the STL file and XML file.
  • User-edited template files with overset volumes are handled better during import.
  • Frozen fan boundary condition is correctly exported to the XML file.
  • Wheels with different roughness parameters per part are now supported.
  • Belts with different roughness parameters are supported.
  • Scaling factor and time step calculations are now consistent if the user toggles scaling factor on/off.
  • Split intersecting parts option does not cause the client to freeze.
  • Split parts from a fan are not tagged as MRF volumes.
  • Long export times due to solid volume validation checks can now be bypassed by disabling “Validate volumes” in Preferences.
  • The units import dialog now lets the user inspect the model with pan/rotate/zoom tools before selecting the units.
  • Wind tunnel extents for Y now accept string values with units such as “1 cm” correctly when the display unit system is in MMKS.
  • Models exported as STL will always be in MKS unit system independent of the display unit system.
  • Display unit system remains unchanged when importing a model with a different unit system.
  • Undo/Redo of Wind Tunnel creation does not cause the client to freeze anymore.
  • Incorrect axis computation with certain model inputs has been corrected.
  • Overset mesh volumes are handled correctly when the associated fan parts are moved between assemblies.
  • Overset mesh volumes are correctly moved back to parts assembly when converted to body type.
  • Importing probes from xml/csv templates in the output table works as expected.
  • Importing old .vwt or .hmcfd files does not disable the “Enable ground patch” option.
  • Max/Min extents for a turbulence zone are correctly updated when one of them is edited.
  • Boundary layer suction parameters are now correctly imported from the XML template.
  • Default size of the part table has been increased to improve readability.
  • Warning message on importing old files does not trigger when importing newer 2024.x files.
  • Inactive belts are removed from the XML file.
  • Inactive mesh controls are not exported to the STL file.
  • Merge output flag is correctly imported from the XML template file.
  • File output types from monitoring surfaces are correctly imported from the XML template file.
  • Display style correctly handles Mesh lines without the smooth shading.
  • Run time is correctly imported from the XML file.
  • Surface output names are correctly imported from the XML file.
  • Files with different unit systems specified in the comments are read correctly.
  • Empty template import warnings from user-edited overset mesh settings are now suppressed on successful import.
  • Virtual fan groups are listed in the parts table.
  • Volume outputs are no longer selectable as a partial surface output.
  • Max absolute edge length default value has been reset to 0.
  • Model shadows are turned off by default.
